KARACHI: An oil and gas well in سندھ’s Gambat area has resumed production after remaining shut for more than a decade, with Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) confirming new output of natural gas and crude oil from the site.

According to a notice sent by PPL to the Pakistan Stock Exchange, the Fais X-1 well was originally discovered and tested in 2014 but was closed due to the absence of supporting infrastructure needed for commercial production. The company said the well has now been reactivated following technical upgrades and pipeline integration work.

PPL stated that the project involved connecting the well to existing pipeline infrastructure from nearby fields. The company also carried out advanced underground separation and restoration operations using modern technology to prepare the site for production.

As part of the revival project, a 4.5-kilometre feeder pipeline was installed to support production capacity. The company said the well is currently producing 3.6 million standard cubic feet of gas per day (MMSCFD) along with 750 barrels of light crude oil daily.

According to the company, production from the Fais X-1 well began on February 25, 2026, and has been increased gradually in phases.

The restoration adds to domestic energy output at a time when Pakistan continues efforts to improve local oil and gas production and reduce reliance on imported energy resources.
