Bangladesh fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman has joined Melbourne Renegades for the 16th edition of the Big Bash League (BBL), marking his first appearance in Australia’s premier domestic T20 tournament.
According to reports, the Renegades have signed the left-arm pacer as a replacement for Jason Behrendorff, who will miss the upcoming season due to injury.
Mustafizur has an impressive record in franchise T20 cricket, having taken 423 wickets in 331 matches. His experience and ability to deliver under pressure are expected to strengthen Melbourne’s bowling attack.
However, the Bangladesh international will miss the Renegades’ opening match against Perth Scorchers due to previously scheduled commitments in the International League T20 (ILT20).
Mustafizur said he was looking forward to making the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) his home ground and playing alongside his new teammates.
Melbourne Renegades head coach Luke Ronchi described Mustafizur as a match-winner in T20 cricket. He said the fast bowler’s ability to take wickets during both the powerplay and death overs would provide an important boost to the team’s bowling options.
The 44-match BBL tournament is scheduled to begin on December 12, with Melbourne Renegades facing Perth Scorchers in the opening fixture. The final is scheduled for January 26, with a reserve day available if required.
