Muhammad Ahmed Khan Makes History with Global Scholarship

KARACHI: Muhammad Ahmed Khan has become the first Pakistani to receive the World Deaf Leadership Scholarship from Gallaudet University in the United States, an achievement described by Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah as a source of pride for both Sindh and Pakistan.

A delegation from the Pakistan Association of the Deaf met with the Sindh chief minister, with provincial ministers Nasir Hussain Shah and Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar, along with DEPD Secretary Taha Farooqi, also attending the meeting.

Congratulating Ahmed Khan on his international achievement, Murad Ali Shah said his selection for the scholarship was a matter of honour for the province and the country.

The chief minister stressed that providing people with hearing disabilities access to quality education and equal opportunities was a collective responsibility. He said Ahmed Khan’s achievement could inspire thousands of young people to overcome challenges through education, determination and hard work.

Murad Ali Shah said the Sindh government was taking practical measures to protect the rights of persons with disabilities and promote their empowerment.

He directed the relevant departments to create more educational, professional and leadership opportunities for people with hearing disabilities. He also called for greater recognition of the achievements of persons with disabilities to encourage other young people.

The chief minister reaffirmed the Sindh government’s commitment to promoting inclusive education and improving welfare opportunities for persons with disabilities.

Ahmed Khan thanked the chief minister for his encouragement and expressed his determination to continue serving Pakistan’s Deaf community after returning home.
