ISLAMABAD, September 8, 2026: Pakistan and New Zealand have reaffirmed their commitment to expanding bilateral cooperation in education and skills development, with a focus on technical training, higher education and industry-responsive skills programmes.
The commitment was reaffirmed during a meeting between the Minister for Federal Education and Professional Training and New Zealand’s Non-Resident High Commissioner to Pakistan, David Pine, in Islamabad.
Education Cooperation Arrangement to Guide Collaboration
The minister welcomed the Education Cooperation Arrangement signed on August 6, 2026, in Wellington, describing it as a comprehensive framework for practical cooperation in school education, technical and vocational education and training (TVET), and higher education.
The two sides discussed ways to translate the agreement into practical initiatives that can benefit Pakistani students, educational institutions and the workforce.
Focus on Skills and Emerging Sectors
The meeting placed particular emphasis on skills development, industry-responsive TVET and stronger institutional linkages between Pakistan and New Zealand.
Potential cooperation in emerging and high-growth sectors was also discussed, including information technology, services and agriculture.
The education minister stressed the importance of sustained engagement to identify priority areas and develop practical programmes that contribute to human capital development and economic growth.
New Zealand Reaffirms Commitment
High Commissioner David Pine reaffirmed New Zealand’s commitment to mutually beneficial cooperation with Pakistan in education and skills development.
Both sides expressed their resolve to maintain close engagement and pursue practical initiatives under the Education Cooperation Arrangement.
