A medical board formed to examine the death of Karachi businessman Mir Raza has concluded that he died from a ruptured heart caused by a gunshot wound to the chest, according to its final report.
The report, prepared by the exhumation board headed by the Karachi police surgeon, found that the bullet entered through Mir Raza’s back and exited through the front of his chest. The board said the findings were not consistent with suicide and described the manner of death as incompatible with a self-inflicted act.
Acid Traces Found on Shirt
The report confirmed the presence of hydrochloric acid on Mir Raza’s shirt. It also found traces of bupivacaine, an anaesthetic drug, in his blood sample.
However, laboratory testing found no evidence of narcotic, sedative or poisonous substances in the samples examined.
Gunshot Residue Detected
According to the medical board, samples taken from Mir Raza’s shirt contained particles associated with a firearm discharge. Lead and barium were detected on both the front and back portions of the shirt.
The report stated that lead and barium are consistent with particles produced by firearm firing. It also noted a higher concentration of gunshot-related particles around the wound on the deceased’s back.
The findings are part of the medical board’s final assessment following the exhumation and examination of the body.
