ISLAMABAD: Senator Malik Shahadat Awan has criticized former governments for what he described as a lack of development in Gilgit-Baltistan, while expressing confidence that the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) will form the next government in the region.
Speaking on political and economic issues, the senator questioned why previous administrations had failed to undertake sufficient development projects in Gilgit-Baltistan despite having opportunities to do so.
He said the PPP remains committed to addressing public concerns and advancing development initiatives in the region.
Commenting on constitutional matters, Awan said amendments to the Constitution cannot be made through ordinances and should follow the parliamentary process.
The senator also called for a meeting on issues related to the National Finance Commission (NFC), emphasizing the need for consultation and dialogue on matters affecting resource distribution.
Addressing circulating political claims, he urged the public not to pay attention to rumors, saying various narratives were being spread without basis.
On economic issues, Awan said government employees’ salaries should be increased in line with inflation so that workers can cope with rising living costs.
His remarks come amid ongoing political debate over governance, economic challenges and preparations for upcoming elections in Gilgit-Baltistan.
