ISLAMABAD: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Culture and Tourism Authority plans to develop 16 picnic spots in Chitral as part of efforts to improve tourism infrastructure and attract more visitors to the region, according to official documents.

The initiative is part of a broader plan to strengthen tourism development in Chitral, focusing on better facilities, accessibility, and community participation. Authorities aim to enhance the visitor experience while creating economic opportunities for local residents.

Officials said tourist facilitation services will be introduced at nine key locations to provide guidance, amenities, and support for visitors. Additional infrastructure projects include the construction of jeepable tracks in tourist areas, development of camping pods and rest houses, and promotion of community-based accommodation.

The plan is designed to improve access to scenic locations and encourage both domestic and international tourism. Authorities expect the expansion of tourism sites to contribute to regional economic growth and support local livelihoods.

The provincial government is working with federal ministries and stakeholders to align tourism policies and accelerate implementation. Officials said the projects will complement ongoing cultural and adventure tourism initiatives, positioning Chitral as a key destination.

The KPCTA operates under the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Tourism Act, 2019, which provides the framework for developing and regulating tourism and cultural heritage across the province.

Authorities said the strategy focuses on sustainable tourism growth, ensuring that increased visitor activity translates into long-term socio-economic benefits for the region.
