ISLAMABAD: An Islamabad district and sessions court on Wednesday adjourned proceedings in a private complaint filed by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf over alleged deaths and injuries during the party’s November 26 protest.

Additional District and Sessions Judge Muhammad Afzal Majoka deferred the PTI November 26 protest case until July 22 after the complainant’s lawyers sought more time because senior counsel Latif Khosa was abroad.

PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar appeared before the court and requested a later hearing date, saying Khosa would participate in the proceedings after returning to Pakistan.

The judge asked how long Khosa would remain abroad and directed the complainant’s side to provide details of his travel schedule.

Barrister Gohar said the information would be submitted and requested that the case be fixed for hearing in August.

During the hearing, he said that if the complaint were dismissed because of the lawyer’s absence, the matter could be taken to the Islamabad High Court. He clarified that his concerns about the judicial process were not directed at the presiding judge.

Judge Majoka responded that his court had not previously issued any decision against Barrister Gohar and proposed fixing a short date. He said a formal application for another adjournment could be submitted if required.

After hearing the arguments, the court adjourned proceedings until July 22.

The private complaint concerns alleged casualties and injuries during PTI’s protest in Islamabad on November 26.
