An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) has announced its verdict in another 9 May-related case, sentencing several senior Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders to 10 years in prison, while acquitting Vice Chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi.
The judgment was announced by ATC Judge Manzar Ali Gul at Kot Lakhpat Jail, where the trial was conducted.
10-year sentences announced
The court sentenced Dr. Yasmin Rashid, Omar Sarfraz Cheema, Mian Mahmood-ur-Rasheed, and Ejaz Chaudhry to 10 years in prison each in connection with the case related to the burning of police vehicles in Mughalpura during the events of May 9.
According to the court proceedings, 22 accused were named in the challan, and cross-examination of 37 prosecution witnesses was completed during the trial.
Two accused, Arbaz Zaman and Elahi Bakhsh, were declared absconders during the proceedings.
Shah Mahmood Qureshi acquitted
In the same case, the court acquitted PTI Vice Chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi. The judgment covered 15 accused in total, with varying outcomes announced after completion of trial proceedings.
The court conducted the trial inside Kot Lakhpat Jail and delivered the verdict after reviewing evidence and witness statements.
