DUBAI: Iran has sent its response to a United States proposal aimed at ending the ongoing regional conflict through Pakistan, according to Iran’s state news agency IRNA.
The Iranian news agency reported that the latest diplomatic exchange is focused on efforts to halt hostilities and reduce tensions in the region following weeks of conflict and instability affecting key trade routes.
According to a source familiar with the matter quoted by IRNA, Iran’s proposal suggests that the current phase of negotiations should focus exclusively on ending hostilities before moving toward broader discussions on unresolved issues.
Separately, Reuters reported, citing sources in both camps, that ongoing peace efforts are aimed at reaching a temporary memorandum of understanding to suspend the conflict and restore commercial traffic through the Strait of Hormuz.
The Reuters report added that future negotiations would likely involve wider disputes between Tehran and Washington, including Iran’s nuclear programme and regional security concerns.
The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world’s most strategically important oil shipping routes, and continued tensions in the region have raised concerns in global energy and financial markets.
