Iran has announced a nationwide public holiday on July 6 and declared July 8 as a day of mourning in connection with the funeral ceremonies of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, according to official statements from Tehran.

The decision comes as Iranian authorities prepare large-scale funeral arrangements for Ali Khamenei, who was killed in earlier reported US and Israeli strikes. Officials said memorial events and burial ceremonies will be held in multiple cities, with public participation expected in the millions.

Government spokespersons said the ceremonies will include official observances and gatherings across the country. Authorities have urged citizens to participate in the events as Iran prepares for what is expected to be a major national moment of mourning.

Reports also indicate that foreign delegations and senior officials from several countries may attend the funeral. Among those expected to visit Iran are Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, though official confirmations of their participation have not been independently verified.

Iranian parliamentary speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf has reportedly invited Pakistan’s National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq to attend the funeral proceedings.

The ceremonies are expected to carry broader regional diplomatic significance, with analysts noting that the participation of international leaders could influence Iran’s future diplomatic engagements.
