ISLAMABAD: The appointments of three vice presidents at the International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) have been challenged before the Islamabad High Court, which has sought a response from the university.
The appointments under challenge relate to the vice presidents responsible for Research and Enterprise, Administration and Finance, and Academics.
Justice Ayaz Shaukat heard a petition filed by citizen Javed Akhtar. Advocate Akash Tara appeared before the court on behalf of the petitioner.
The petitioner’s counsel argued that the university was required to follow a transparent process for appointments in accordance with an earlier court ruling. He maintained that no such process had been followed in the appointments in question.
According to the petitioner’s lawyer, the university was required to make appointments on an open-merit basis but instead selected faculty members through a procedure developed by the university itself.
During the hearing, Justice Ayaz Shaukat asked whether the Board of Governors had formally delegated its authority to the relevant committee and directed the parties to examine the matter.
The Islamabad High Court issued a notice to the International Islamic University and directed it to submit its response within two weeks.
The court has not yet issued a final ruling on the legality of the appointments.
