ABBOTTABAD: The Hazara National Front has renewed its demand for the creation of a comprehensive Hazara province, calling for the restoration of what it describes as the region’s historical and administrative boundaries.
At a press conference at the Abbottabad Press Club, Central Chairman Zulqarnain Khan Jadoon, Central President Javed Jadoon and other leaders said areas separated from Hazara during the British era should be brought back into a unified administrative unit.
The leaders proposed a Hazara province stretching from the Indus River to Islamabad and from Kohistan to Murree, arguing that the move would strengthen administrative representation and promote equitable development.
Zulqarnain Khan Jadoon said the demand for a Hazara province was not new and dated back to 1987, when the founding chairman of the Hazara National Front, Asif Malik Advocate, first presented the proposal.
According to the leaders, official records, gazetteers, settlement reports and British-era administrative maps indicate that 92 villages of Murree were historically separated from Hazara and incorporated into Rawalpindi Division. They also said Attock Tehsil was separated from Hazara District and attached to Rawalpindi District following the administrative reorganisation of 1901.
The proposed province would comprise three divisions:
- Abasin Division: Upper Kohistan, Lower Kohistan, Kolai-Palas, Allai, Battagram and Torghar
- Hazara Division: Balakot, Mansehra, Tanawal, Abbottabad, Galiyat and Haripur
- Islamabad Division: Murree, Islamabad, Attock, Taxila and Hassan Abdal
The Hazara National Front leadership stressed that the demand was not directed against any nation, language, region or existing province, but was aimed at securing greater administrative rights, political representation and equal development opportunities.
The leaders argued that if administrative boundaries could be altered during the British period for administrative reasons, the people of Hazara should have the democratic right to seek a province based on their historical, geographical and administrative identity.
They called for serious consideration of the proposal and said the creation of a comprehensive Hazara province would help address longstanding demands for stronger representation and development in the region.
