Bajaur: Funeral prayers for four Bajaur Police personnel who were martyred in a militant attack were offered with full state honours at Police Lines Bajaur on Tuesday, drawing senior civil and military officials, tribal elders and members of civil society.

The fallen officers — Constable Yar Zada, Constable Dawood Khan, Constable Imran and Constable Siraj — embraced martyrdom after their Ababeel Squad patrol was ambushed shortly before iftar near Nawey Kalay during Ramadan.

The funeral ceremony was attended by Commandant Bajaur Scouts, District Police Officer (DPO) Bajaur Muhammad Khalid, Deputy Commissioner Bajaur, SP Investigation, senior police officials and a large number of local elders and citizens. A smartly turned-out police contingent presented a guard of honour, while floral wreaths were laid on the coffins. Special prayers were offered for the elevation of the martyrs’ ranks and for peace and stability in the country.

Following the ceremony, the bodies were dispatched to their native areas under official escort, where they will be laid to rest with full state honours.

Attack and Ongoing Operation

According to the Bajaur Police spokesperson, the Ababeel Squad had been deployed on routine patrol duty to ensure security in markets and along key roads during Ramadan when militants launched a sudden attack. Two personnel — Irshad Khan and Aziz ur Rehman — were injured in the assault and shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital in Khar for treatment.

A heavy police contingent reached the site immediately after the incident, and a search-and-strike operation is underway in the surrounding areas.

DPO Muhammad Khalid condemned the attack, terming it a cowardly act, and reaffirmed that those responsible would be brought to justice. “The sacrifices of our martyrs will not go in vain. The perpetrators will be pursued and dealt with according to law,” he stated.

Security has been heightened across Bajaur district following the incident.
