SIALKOT: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) organised a tax awareness and outreach seminar at Sialkot Medical College to promote voluntary tax compliance and improve understanding of Pakistan’s tax laws among students and faculty members.

The seminar was held on the directions of FBR Chairman Rashid Mahmood Langrial and under the supervision of Member Taxpayers’ Services Tehmina Aamer as part of the authority’s nationwide taxpayer awareness campaign.

The FBR delegation included Secretary Tax Education and Facilitation Muhammad Mutti-ur-Rehman Mumtaz and Second Secretary Tax Facilitation Abdul Rehman Sheikh.

The event was attended by Sialkot Medical College Chief Executive Officer Prof Dr Imran Idress Butt, Principal Prof Dr Muhammad Sabir, Director Capital Sports Dr Mariam Nouman, faculty members and a large number of students.

Speaking at the session, Mumtaz briefed participants on the FBR’s mandate and ongoing reforms aimed at improving taxpayer facilitation and modernising tax administration in the country.

He highlighted several digital initiatives introduced by the FBR, including Point of Sale (POS) integration, the Track and Trace System, digital invoicing, the faceless customs system, cargo tracking, direct port delivery, reward and rating systems, and video analytics for production monitoring.

According to FBR officials, these reforms have contributed to enhancing tax compliance, expanding the tax base and improving public confidence in the institution’s transparency and service delivery.

During the interactive session, students and faculty members raised questions related to salary taxation and electricity bill adjustments. The FBR team responded to participants’ queries and shared guidance on tax-related matters.

Participants appreciated the awareness initiative and termed it a useful step towards encouraging responsible tax culture and voluntary compliance among young professionals.

The seminar concluded with the distribution of souvenirs among representatives of the institution.
