A fire broke out at a Pakistan Customs warehouse in Dera Ismail Khan on June 13, but authorities said the blaze was brought under control and no casualties were reported.
The Customs warehouse fire occurred at around 4:00pm at a facility located opposite the Anti-Smuggling Unit office while seized goods were being shifted to a newly constructed warehouse, according to a press release issued on June 14.
Initial information suggested that a vehicle being used in the shifting operation caught fire after it was started. The flames later spread within the warehouse premises.
Customs staff immediately began firefighting efforts and activated emergency response procedures. The district administration, police and Rescue 1122 were informed and reached the site to assist in firefighting and rescue operations.
Most warehouse stock already shifted
Pakistan Customs said nearly 80 percent of the warehouse stock had already been transferred to the new facility before the incident. Most vehicles previously kept at the warehouse had also been relocated.
The remaining stock mainly included expired cigarettes and miscellaneous seized goods. The relocation process was in its final stages and was expected to be completed within the next few days.
During the emergency response, teams from Pakistan Customs, Rescue 1122, district authorities and law-enforcement agencies evacuated additional vehicles and assets from the affected premises.
Some boundary walls and nearby structures were partially removed to provide access for firefighting teams and support rescue operations.
Damage assessment underway
Officials said no loss of life, injuries or casualties were reported in the incident.
Firefighting operations continued until the blaze was brought under control. Assessment teams later began evaluating the extent of damage and recovering remaining assets from the site.
The exact cause of the fire and the final estimate of losses will be determined after technical and administrative inquiries are completed.
Pakistan Customs said the ongoing relocation and modernization of storage facilities helped reduce potential losses, as most goods and vehicles had already been secured at the new warehouse.
The department also acknowledged the support of Rescue 1122, the district administration, police administration and personnel involved in the emergency response.
