BEIJING, November 2, 2026: Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer BYD recorded its sixth consecutive month of year-on-year sales growth in October, driven by a sharp increase in overseas deliveries despite slowing momentum in its domestic market.

BYD sold 490,168 vehicles in October, representing an 11% increase compared with the same month last year, according to company figures released on Sunday and calculations reported by Reuters.

The latest figures extend the automaker’s sales growth streak, although the pace of expansion slowed from September, when the company reported a 17% year-on-year increase.

Overseas markets emerged as the main driver of growth, with BYD delivering 170,194 vehicles internationally during October.

The figure represents a 102.8% increase compared with October 2025, highlighting the company’s expanding presence in international automotive markets.

The strong performance abroad comes as Chinese electric vehicle manufacturers increasingly focus on overseas expansion amid intensifying competition and weaker demand at home.

Industry analysts say the push into international markets is increasing competition among electric vehicle manufacturers globally, while sluggish domestic demand continues to create challenges for Chinese automakers.

China’s domestic automotive market has experienced a sharper-than-expected slowdown this year, putting additional pressure on manufacturers to sustain growth through exports.

Despite the challenges in its home market, BYD’s latest sales figures indicate that international demand continues to support its overall performance.

Looking ahead, China’s domestic vehicle market is expected to experience a modest recovery in 2027 following this year’s weaker-than-anticipated performance.
