BISP Introduces Digital Wallet System, Rubina Khalid Tells Beneficiaries During Live E-Katcheri
Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) Chairperson Senator Rubina Khalid announced new guidance for beneficiaries during a live E-Katcheri held at BISP Headquarters, outlining the rollout of the programme’s Digital Wallet payment system and addressing questions from women across Pakistan.
During the online session, streamed through BISP’s official Facebook page, beneficiaries raised concerns related to payments, registration, and programme services. The chairperson said the new payment system is intended to make financial assistance more secure, transparent, and convenient.
Digital Wallet Aims to Improve Payment Process
According to Senator Rubina Khalid, the Digital Wallet system has been introduced under the directives of President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to simplify the disbursement of financial assistance.
She said the new system is designed to reduce long queues and overcrowding at payment centres while allowing beneficiaries to withdraw funds from authorized bank retailers at a time of their choice.
The chairperson acknowledged that some initial operational challenges may occur during the transition but said the system is expected to improve as implementation progresses.
Beneficiaries Advised to Collect Official Benazir SIM
Rubina Khalid urged beneficiaries who have not yet received their officially issued Benazir SIM to visit their nearest BISP office.
She said Benazir Kafaalat payments will only be transferred to Digital Wallets linked with the officially issued SIM. Beneficiaries were advised to bring their original Computerized National Identity Card (CNIC) and personal mobile phone when collecting the SIM.
SMS Alerts and Payment Verification
The chairperson said beneficiaries will receive SMS notifications when funds are deposited into their Digital Wallet and another confirmation after the payment is withdrawn.
She advised women to verify the payment amount through the SMS messages and immediately report any unauthorized deductions or incomplete payments to BISP officials or the programme’s helpline.
BISP Warns Against Fraud and Misinformation
Senator Rubina Khalid urged beneficiaries not to hand over their mobile phones to retailers during payment collection and said only CNIC verification and biometric authentication are required for withdrawals.
She also advised beneficiaries to receive payments only from authorized bank retailers and to rely on BISP’s official social media platforms, local offices, or the BISP Helpline (0800-26477) for authentic information.
During the live session, the chairperson directed relevant officials to address complaints raised by beneficiaries and reiterated that no unauthorized individual has the authority to suspend financial assistance provided under the programme.
