BAGH / MUZAFFARABAD, June 19, 2026: In a significant political development in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), former minister and Legislative Assembly member Beghum Imtiaz Naseem has joined the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), marking a notable shift in the region’s political landscape.

She was elected on a Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) ticket and later aligned with the party’s forward bloc before formally announcing her decision to join PML-N. The joining ceremony was attended by senior party leaders including Senior Vice President Mushtaq Minhas, Raja Mujahid, Raja Riasat, and Federal Minister Engineer Amir Muqam.

Leadership welcomes new political alignment

Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs Engineer Amir Muqam welcomed Beghum Imtiaz Naseem and her supporters into the party, saying their inclusion would strengthen PML-N’s position in AJK politics.

He said political engagement should be based on respect and public service, adding that the party would fully utilize the experience and capabilities of new entrants.

Amir Muqam also praised the contributions of party leadership in organizing and managing political strategy in the region, saying Nawaz Sharif had personally overseen key party decisions regarding ticket distribution and electoral planning.

Assembly politics and internal developments

Speaking on the occasion, party leaders said that multiple candidates had submitted nomination papers across constituencies, and tickets were awarded based on party policy and recommendations of a review committee approved by the party leadership.

They said internal consultations were conducted at various levels before final decisions were endorsed by party leadership.

Leaders added that individuals not receiving tickets remain part of the party’s broader political strength and would continue to play a role in upcoming electoral campaigns.

Beghum Imtiaz Naseem’s remarks

Beghum Imtiaz Naseem said she had “returned to her political home,” adding that her late husband, Colonel (R) Naseem, was among the founding figures associated with PML-N.

She said she would actively participate in strengthening the party in her constituency and pledged full support for its candidates.

She also claimed that development work in central Bagh had slowed in recent years and said PML-N would work to restore progress in the region.

Broader political messaging

Party leaders reiterated that PML-N aims to secure a strong majority in the upcoming political setup in AJK, claiming that development and public welfare remain central to its agenda.

They also referred to ongoing discussions with the Action Committee and said dialogue efforts had been conducted under party leadership to address regional concerns.
