AJK Reinstates FIRs Against JAAC Members After Alleged Agreement Violations

MUZAFFARABAD, June 11: The Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) government has reinstated several FIRs and legal cases against members of the Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC), alleging violations of commitments made under a previous agreement between the two sides.

According to an official notification issued by the Law, Justice, Parliamentary Affairs and Human Rights Department, the AJK Cabinet approved the withdrawal of earlier relief notifications during its 41st meeting held on June 5, 2026.

The decision reverses previous government orders that had provided legal relief in protest and agitation-related cases involving JAAC members. As a result, multiple cases pending before criminal courts across Azad Jammu and Kashmir are expected to proceed once again.

The notification states that four earlier orders issued between July 2024 and December 2025 have been withdrawn following cabinet approval.

Government officials maintain the action was taken due to alleged violations of the agreement reached after the JAAC-led protest movement. The development is expected to reignite political debate in AJK, where JAAC emerged as a prominent voice on issues including electricity tariffs, taxation, and governance reforms.

No official response from JAAC leadership was immediately available following the notification’s issuance.

The latest move signals renewed tensions between the AJK government and the Joint Awami Action Committee, with legal proceedings likely to remain a key focus in the coming weeks.
