PESHAWAR: Bank of Khyber (BoK) has launched PINKTOBER 2026, a month-long breast cancer awareness campaign aimed at promoting early detection, timely treatment and greater awareness among employees.

The initiative was formally launched at BoK Tower in Peshawar under the theme “Many Journeys, One Hope,” highlighting the importance of recognising early signs and seeking medical attention without delay.

The campaign includes awareness sessions designed to help employees better understand breast cancer, its warning signs and the role of early detection in improving treatment outcomes.

Dr Zainab Jan, Consultant Radiation Oncologist at the Institute of Radiotherapy and Nuclear Medicine, Peshawar, briefed participants on early symptoms and warning signs.

Dr Abeer Jehanzeb, General Surgeon and Fellow Breast Surgeon at Khyber Teaching Hospital Peshawar, demonstrated breast self-examination and responded to questions from employees.

Speaking at the launch, Group Head HR Shaban Butt said awareness about the causes, prevention and treatment of breast cancer was essential, adding that timely treatment could save lives.

He said employee wellbeing remained a key organisational priority and stressed that the bank would continue supporting its workforce, particularly women.

Group Head Retail Banking and Acting Managing Director Gul Buhar Khan said breast cancer required sustained attention because of its impact on women, including those affected at relatively younger ages.

He said early detection remained one of the most important tools in reducing the risks associated with the disease.

As part of PINKTOBER 2026, BoK is encouraging employees to remain aware, seek medical checks, support breast cancer patients and help spread awareness.

The initiative is also intended to reduce stigma and encourage women to seek medical advice if they notice unusual changes.

According to figures cited in the campaign from the World Health Organization’s International Agency for Research on Cancer, Pakistan recorded an estimated 30,682 new breast cancer cases and 15,552 deaths in 2022.

BoK said the campaign reflects its broader commitment to employee wellbeing and to promoting a healthy and inclusive workplace.
