The Punjab government has announced that the distribution of electric bikes under its student-focused scheme will begin in early November 2026, with students also set to receive free helmets, safety equipment and driving training.
According to the details released by the provincial government, the scheme launched by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has received more than 1.14 million applications from students across the province.
A total of 1,149,058 students have applied for electric bikes, including 222,101 female students, according to the figures shared by the chief minister.
The current phase of the programme aims to distribute 100,000 electric bikes among eligible students.
Applications opened on September 5, 2026, and the deadline has been set for October 4, 2026. The distribution of electric bikes is scheduled to begin in early November.
The government says the scheme has been designed to reduce the financial burden on students and provide them with an affordable and convenient mode of transportation.
Under the scheme, an electric bike with a market price of around Rs199,000 will be provided to students at a subsidized price of Rs109,000.
The remaining amount will be payable over 36 months, with the monthly installment stated to be Rs3,028.
According to the announced scheme details, students will not be required to make a down payment. The Punjab government will also cover registration, insurance and markup costs.
Students receiving the bikes will additionally be provided with free helmets, safety equipment and driving training.
