Australia defeated England by seven wickets to win a record-extending seventh ICC Women’s T20 World Cup title in a one-sided final at Lord’s in London on Sunday.
Chasing a target of 151, Australia reached the total with 17 balls remaining, powered by a match-defining second-wicket partnership between Beth Mooney and Phoebe Litchfield. The win reaffirmed Australia’s dominance in women’s global cricket and extended their perfect record in World Cup finals.
England, playing in front of a packed home crowd at Lord’s, posted 150-4 after electing to bat. Captain Nat Sciver-Brunt (58 not out) and Freya Kemp (44 not out) rebuilt the innings with an unbeaten 80-run stand after the hosts had slipped to 70-4. However, the total proved insufficient against Australia’s disciplined bowling and sharp fielding.
Australia’s chase began with early intent despite losing Georgia Voll in the opening over. Mooney, who scored 64 off 49 balls, anchored the innings with controlled stroke play, while Litchfield added 48 runs to keep the momentum firmly with the visitors. Their 100-run partnership effectively ended England’s hopes.
England’s bowling attack struggled to break through during the middle overs as Australia maintained control of the chase. Mooney was eventually dismissed with the target in sight, but the outcome was never in doubt as Australia completed the chase comfortably.
The result marks Australia’s continued supremacy in women’s international cricket, securing another global title on one of the sport’s most iconic venues.
