ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Information Attaullah Tarar on Friday condemned recent cross-border incidents in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, alleging that civilians in border districts were deliberately targeted.

In a statement issued on social media, the minister cited figures from the district administration in Bajaur, stating that nine civilians, including women and children, were killed, while 12 others sustained injuries in recent attacks.

He also referred to a separate incident in Bajaur’s Mamund area, where three civilians were injured after a drone strike hit a cricket ground during a local match.

Tarar criticised what he described as continued cross-border aggression and rejected allegations made by Afghan authorities regarding Pakistan’s conduct, calling them unfounded.

He maintained that Pakistan’s security operations are directed solely at militant infrastructure and are carried out with measures to minimise civilian harm. He added that information about such operations is shared transparently with the public.

Tensions along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border have escalated in recent days, with multiple reports of cross-border firing and security-related incidents in tribal districts.

Authorities said the situation is being closely monitored, with efforts underway to ensure the safety of civilians in affected areas.
