LAHORE, June 18, 2026: Atomic Energy Cancer Hospital, Institute of Nuclear Medicine and Oncology Lahore has launched its first volunteer programme to involve students in patient support services and promote community service among young people.

The AECH INMOL volunteer programme was inaugurated in Lahore on June 18, 2026, with 22 students from different schools and colleges inducted into the first batch. The students will assist cancer patients and their attendants during a month-long engagement at the hospital.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission Member Science Dr. Shakeel Abbas Rofi, INMOL Director Dr. Arzoo Fatima Saleem, faculty members, medical professionals and representatives of educational institutions.

Under the programme, student volunteers will help patients and attendants with hospital navigation and support patient-centered services aimed at improving the overall healthcare experience.

Speaking at the ceremony, Dr. Shakeel Abbas Rofi said the initiative was designed to make healthcare more patient-friendly while giving young people an opportunity to contribute to society.

He said the programme would serve as a pilot project and could later be replicated across the 21 Atomic Energy Cancer Hospitals operated by PAEC across Pakistan.

“We aim to expand this initiative across our cancer hospital network so that patients and their families receive timely guidance and support throughout their treatment journey,” he said.

Dr. Arzoo Fatima Saleem said the programme would also benefit participating students by exposing them to a healthcare environment and helping them develop empathy, communication skills, teamwork and a deeper understanding of community service.

She said certificates of appreciation would be awarded to the students after successful completion of their volunteer service.

The ceremony concluded with Dr. Shakeel Abbas Rofi distributing volunteer kits among the selected students, formally marking the start of their service at AECH INMOL.

AECH INMOL is one of PAEC’s major cancer care institutions, providing diagnostic, treatment and research services. According to the Economic Survey of Pakistan 2025-26, PAEC treats 80 percent of cancer patients in the country through its nationwide network of 21 Atomic Energy Cancer Hospitals.
