ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) have taken former prime minister Imran Khan to task for his alleged confession of organizing a protest outside the army headquarters.
The development came after Khan, speaking to reporters during a hearing on the case at Adiala Jail on Monday, admitted that he had called for a peaceful protest outside the Pakistan Army General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi before his arrest in Rawalpindi. response to the “attack” by law enforcement officers on his Zaman Park residence.
Responding to the PTI founder’s claim reported by the media, party leaders said the remarks were wrongly attributed to Khan as he had said no such thing.
PML-N leader and Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz said in a statement today that the “mastermind” of the May 9 incidents has finally confessed to the sin of architectural design and aiding and abetting them.
Describing PTI as an anarchist group, Maryam said its only aim is to harm the state through mischief. She also alleged that Khan’s residence in Zaman Park served as a hub for terrorists.
“Zaman Park remained a training headquarters for terrorists, where training for making petrol bombs and attacking the state took place,” she said.
Referring to the PTI founder’s injury, after which his leg was cast, she said the May 9 tragedy was planned during the “drama of tying his leg in a cast for four months”.
On PTI’s claim that it had called for a peaceful protest, she asked what kind of peaceful protest it was in which more than 200 military installations were vandalized.
“Pakistan Air Force aircraft were set on fire, the Corps Commander’s house was burnt and martyrs’ monuments were desecrated.
“Writing the IMF letter is part of this grand conspiracy to bankrupt Pakistan. Conspiracies for waving ciphers and desecrating martyrs’ memorials are part of all this,” she said.
Moreover, the Punjab CM demanded strict action against the nefarious and anarchic group, saying it was a “necessity for national security and national interests”.
She also accused PTI of alienating friendly countries from Pakistan, saying its leaders used foul language against the leadership of friendly countries.
Maryam said the same party attacked Parliament, PTV and the Prime Minister’s House in 2014 and also caused the Chinese President to postpone his visit.
Referring to the PTI founder’s alleged confessional statement, PPP Senator Sherry Rehman said Khan had confessed to organizing the protest outside the army headquarters during last year’s violent protest.
“Finally Imran Khan has admitted that he gave the call for the protest outside GHQ,” she said after the former prime minister asked the nation for an apology.
She said admitting to calling for an attack on constitutions was not enough, Khan should apologize for his crime.
