Development work on the Islamabad Expressway Service Road (East) project, covering the widening and rehabilitation of the stretch from Faizabad to Gulberg, is progressing rapidly, with more than 28 per cent of the overall work completed so far.
According to project details, an approximately 9.3-kilometre-long dual carriageway featuring three lanes on each side is being constructed under the initiative.
Excavation, sub-grade, sub-base and top sub-base activities are progressing on the under-construction road, while work on different sections of the project is continuing simultaneously.
Construction of the underpass, a key component of the project, is also advancing. Officials said work on all 153 piles of the underpass has been completed. Construction of various bridge culverts and drainage structures is also underway.
Meanwhile, the Capital Development Authority (CDA) has intensified its enforcement operation against illegal constructions, encroachments, unauthorised commercial activities and violations of building control regulations around the Expressway Service Road East.
Under the operation, 58 buildings have been sealed, while 124 structures identified between Sohan and Khanna Bridge have been demolished.
CDA Chairman and Chief Commissioner Islamabad Sohail Ashraf directed the relevant authorities to ensure strict and uniform enforcement of building by-laws, land-use regulations and mandatory fire safety requirements.
He stressed that construction standards must not be compromised and instructed officials to maintain a strong focus on timely completion, quality and transparency throughout the project.
According to the CDA chairman, completion of the Service Road East will significantly ease traffic pressure on the Islamabad Expressway while reducing commuters’ travel time and fuel consumption.
He added that the project would also improve commuting facilities for residents living in neighbourhoods along the Islamabad Expressway Service Road East.
