The 51st International Nathiagali Summer College, organized by the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC), has officially begun, bringing together leading scientists from around the world in Pakistan.
The event has drawn 45 internationally renowned scientists from 20 countries across five continents, who will take part in discussions on advanced scientific and technological subjects. The long-running forum continues a global scientific tradition established by Nobel laureate Professor Abdus Salam.
According to PAEC officials, the participation of international experts reflects growing global confidence in Pakistan’s scientific community and research ecosystem.
Speaking at the opening, PAEC Chairman Dr Raja Ali Raza Anwar said Professor Abdus Salam’s vision continues to guide scientific progress and stressed that science and technology remain central to national development.
He added that emerging fields such as artificial intelligence and quantum technology are reshaping the future, urging greater investment in scientific research. He also highlighted PAEC’s role in clean energy, noting that six nuclear power plants are contributing to the national grid.
The chairman further said that PAEC’s 21 cancer treatment centres are providing healthcare support to a large number of patients, while agricultural research efforts are helping address food security and climate challenges.
He said strengthening international scientific collaboration remains a key priority as Pakistan continues to advance in basic and applied research.
