Pakistan’s National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has restored the blocked Computerised National Identity Card (CNIC) of a citizen, Muhammad Dawood, after 11 years following intervention by the Federal Ombudsman.
According to the report, Dawood’s CNIC had been blocked by NADRA in 2015. He said he repeatedly visited NADRA offices and appeared before various committees to seek restoration of his identity card, but his issue remained unresolved.
After years of unsuccessful attempts, he approached the regional office of the Federal Ombudsman in Quetta and filed a complaint alleging negligence and delays by the relevant department.
Federal Ombudsman Orders Immediate Restoration
Following receipt of the complaint, the Federal Ombudsman’s Quetta office launched an inquiry, summoned the relevant department and heard the case on an urgent basis.
During the hearing, the department reportedly failed to provide a satisfactory explanation. The Federal Ombudsman subsequently directed the authorities to restore Dawood’s blocked CNIC immediately.
NADRA complied with the directive and restored the identity card.
Dawood expressed gratitude to the Federal Ombudsman for the timely intervention and what he described as a fair decision.
The case highlights the role of the Federal Ombudsman in addressing complaints involving alleged administrative negligence and prolonged delays in public services.
