A viral social media claim that former Indian tennis star Sania Mirza donated land belonging to her tennis academy for the construction of a mosque has been denied by her father, Imran Mirza.
The claim has circulated online alongside an image purportedly showing Sania Mirza with former Indian cricket captain and current state minister Mohammad Azharuddin at the foundation-laying ceremony for a mosque.
However, Imran Mirza has rejected the reports, describing them as fabricated and the accompanying image as fake and AI-generated.
In a detailed clarification posted on Instagram, he said Sania had every right to decide how to use land purchased by her or her family. However, he categorically stated that no mosque was being constructed at the site where her tennis academy is located.
Imran Mirza also stressed that Sania’s past and future social or charitable activities were her private affairs. He said such initiatives should not be publicised without her confirmation, particularly when she had not personally verified the claims.
His statement seeks to counter the viral narrative and clarify that the reported donation of the academy’s land for a mosque is not true, according to the family’s clarification.
