A 21-year-old woman survived a fall from the eighth floor of an apartment building in Athens, Georgia, in what police described as an accident.

The incident involving University of Georgia student Christine Sargent occurred on September 26 while she was inside an apartment building where she lived.

According to witnesses who spoke to police, Sargent was dancing on a sofa near an open window in an eighth-floor apartment when she reportedly slipped and fell outside.

She landed near a pool in an area located around the building’s second floor. Police later found evidence suggesting that she struck a metal bench during the fall.

Blood was reportedly found on the bench’s cushion, while the bench itself was also damaged.

Police said they believe the metal bench may have helped slow or interrupt Sargent’s fall, potentially reducing the severity of her injuries.

Friends of Sargent contacted emergency services after finding her lying motionless on the ground. She was taken to a hospital for treatment.

Police said the incident was considered accidental and not criminal in nature. Authorities also said Sargent was conscious following the incident.

Sargent’s relatives have confirmed that she is recovering rapidly. Her sister said the family is grateful that she survived the fall.
