ABBOTTABAD: The Hazara Women Association organised a series of breast cancer awareness seminars and educational activities across institutions in Abbottabad, encouraging women and female students to recognise early warning signs, seek timely medical advice and understand the importance of screening.
The awareness campaign brought together medical specialists, students and community members to discuss breast cancer symptoms, early detection, treatment options and common misconceptions surrounding the disease. Several women were also referred for further medical examinations, screening and mammograms following the sessions.
The programmes were conducted under the leadership of Hazara Women Association President Amna Sardar, with General Secretary Sobia Shaukat coordinating activities across participating institutions.
Other female members of the association also contributed to organising the events and engaging participants in discussions about women’s health.
Medical experts highlight importance of early detection
During the seminars, a team of doctors provided information about breast cancer, including possible symptoms, available diagnostic procedures and treatment options.
The specialists emphasised the importance of recognising unusual breast changes and seeking professional medical assessment rather than delaying consultation.
Participants were also informed about the role of screening and mammography in detecting breast cancer, particularly for women who may require regular examinations based on their age, medical history or individual risk factors.
The sessions provided opportunities for women and students to ask questions and discuss concerns about the disease with medical professionals.
According to the organisers, several participants were referred for additional medical examinations and diagnostic screening following the awareness activities.
Pink Tea Parties encourage open discussion
Alongside the educational seminars, the association organised Pink Tea Parties at different locations to encourage women to discuss breast health in a supportive community setting.
The gatherings attracted women from different backgrounds and focused on improving awareness of symptoms, medical consultation and available screening services.
Medical experts and organisers responded to participants’ questions and addressed misconceptions that can discourage women from seeking timely healthcare.
Female students attending the programmes also participated in the discussions, showing interest in learning about breast cancer and preventive healthcare practices.
The association said these activities were intended to make health information more accessible and encourage women to seek appropriate medical guidance when needed.
Association plans to continue women’s health initiatives
Hazara Women Association President Amna Sardar and General Secretary Sobia Shaukat oversaw the campaign, with support from other members of the organisation.
The association said the seminars were part of its broader efforts to improve health awareness, address misconceptions about breast cancer and promote early detection.
Organisers highlighted the importance of continued community engagement, particularly in educational institutions where awareness activities can reach young women and help spread reliable health information within families.
The Hazara Women Association reaffirmed its commitment to continuing programmes focused on women’s health, well-being and social awareness in Abbottabad and surrounding areas.
