KARACHI: The UBL National Innovation Hackathon 2026 concluded at the National Incubation Center (NIC) Karachi, bringing together young innovators from across Pakistan to develop technology-based solutions for the country’s banking and financial services sector.
The three-day event featured 25 finalist teams selected from 1,281 applications nationwide, with participants competing to design digital solutions focused on improving financial services through emerging technologies.
Organised by NIC Karachi, an Ignite-funded initiative under the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication, in collaboration with United Bank Limited (UBL), the hackathon aimed to encourage innovation in Pakistan’s growing FinTech ecosystem.
Young Innovators Develop Digital Banking Solutions
The competition focused on five key areas, including Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Banking, Blockchain and Digital Trust, UX/UI for Inclusive Financial Services, Open Banking APIs, and Emerging FinTech Solutions.
During the challenge, participating teams worked on real-world banking and payment sector issues by conducting user research, developing prototypes, testing ideas, and building technology-driven business models.
Finalist teams presented functional prototypes along with technical documentation, source code repositories, cloud or live deployments, demo videos, and investor-focused pitch presentations.
Industry Mentorship Supports FinTech Development
Throughout the hackathon, participants received guidance and mentorship from industry professionals to improve their concepts, strengthen technical solutions, and enhance the practical application of their projects.
The event concluded with certificates being awarded to all finalist teams in recognition of their participation, innovation, and collaborative efforts.
UBL and NIC Karachi said the initiative reflects their continued partnership to support entrepreneurship, promote digital innovation, and help develop market-ready solutions for Pakistan’s financial technology sector.
The hackathon comes as Pakistan’s banking industry continues to explore digital transformation, with FinTech startups and technology-driven solutions playing an increasing role in expanding access to financial services.
