The late His Highness Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, may his soul rest in peace, was globally admired for his humanitarian vision, compassionate leadership, and far-sighted statesmanship. A sincere and steadfast friend of Pakistan, he consistently championed the socio-economic uplift of its people through generous support and life-changing public welfare projects that continue to benefit millions.

This noble legacy has been resolutely carried forward by his successors — His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Abu Dhabi, and the late His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, may his soul rest in peace. Their commitment has delivered a wide array of development initiatives aimed at improving living standards and promoting inclusive growth, particularly in Pakistan’s remote and underdeveloped regions.
Infrastructure and Connectivity
A central focus has been critical infrastructure. Numerous roads, bridges, and transport networks have been constructed and rehabilitated, reducing travel times, improving trade routes, and connecting isolated communities to urban centers and essential services.

Special emphasis has been placed on air connectivity in difficult terrain. Airports and airstrips developed or upgraded in Rahim Yar Khan, Chandna, Bhagla, Rojhan, and Washuk now meet modern international standards and are capable of handling cargo and passenger aircraft. These facilities have been vital for regional development, emergency response, and economic activity.
Housing, Community Development and Public Amenities
UAE-supported initiatives have also prioritized dignified housing for underprivileged families, fostering social stability and community cohesion.

Facilitated by Houbara Foundation International Pakistan, the program has included: 19 roads and bridges, including a major bridge over the River Indus; six airports in wildlife habitat and remote regions; and 26 housing colonies. In addition, sports stadiums, public parks, schools, colleges, hospitals, and drinking water supply schemes have been completed, addressing both social and recreational needs.
Impact on Remote Regions
The humanitarian vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan has left a profound imprint across Pakistan. The impact is most evident in remote and inaccessible areas where development opportunities were previously limited. By providing essential infrastructure and public facilities, these initiatives have empowered communities, stimulated local economies, and improved quality of life.
An Enduring Human-Centric Vision
Beyond physical infrastructure, these initiatives reflect a belief that human development is the true measure of progress — a principle best expressed by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan:

“No matter how many buildings, foundations, schools and hospitals we build, or how many bridges we raise, all these are material entities. The real spirit behind progress is the human spirit — the able man with his intellect and capabilities.”

The public welfare projects supported by the UAE leadership stand as enduring symbols of compassion, partnership, and shared aspiration between Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates, transforming lives and reinforcing the longstanding bonds of brotherhood between the two nations.
