ISLAMABAD: Former Pakistan captain Wasim Akram has expressed concern over the health of former prime minister and ex-Pakistan captain Imran Khan, saying that there should be no compromise when it comes to his well-being.
Speaking to a foreign media outlet, Wasim Akram said he had not spoken to Imran Khan for the past three years but still considers him a friend, mentor and an important figure in his career.
“Political matters are separate, but there should be no compromise on Imran Khan’s health,” Wasim Akram said.
The former fast bowler said he remained concerned about reports regarding Imran Khan’s health despite statements issued by the government. He said he wanted to know the actual condition of the former prime minister while he remains in prison.
Wasim Akram also said that he misses his former captain and mentor as a friend, emphasizing that his concern was about Imran Khan’s health regardless of political differences.
The remarks come amid growing discussion over Imran Khan’s health, with several figures from the cricketing world also expressing concern.
According to the report, 22 former international cricket captains have appealed to the Pakistani government to ensure Imran Khan’s basic rights and access to medical facilities. Current Australia captain Pat Cummins has also reportedly voiced concern about his health.
Wasim Akram’s comments have since drawn attention among cricket and political circles, particularly because of his long-standing association with Imran Khan, who played a significant role in his early international career.
