SWAT: Three people, including two minor girls, lost their lives and six others were injured in two separate roof collapse incidents in Charbagh and Kalam areas of Swat, according to rescue officials and police.
In the first incident, a mud house collapsed in the Gandheray area of Charbagh Tehsil, trapping members of a family under the debris. Rescue 1122 and police officials said two sisters, 8-year-old Sheema and 6-year-old Manahil, died at the scene.
The victims were daughters of a local resident, Anwar. His wife and another daughter, Hurain, sustained serious injuries and were shifted to hospital for treatment.
Rescue 1122 disaster response and medical teams reached the site and, with the assistance of local residents, recovered all affected family members from the rubble. The injured were provided first aid before being transferred to THQ Hospital Madyan.
Tourist killed in Kalam hotel roof collapse
In a separate incident in the Paloga area of Kalam Valley, the roof of a hotel identified as “Des Pardes” collapsed, resulting in the death of a tourist.
Officials said 32-year-old Waqas, son of Said Alam and a resident of Garhi Usman Khel in Dargai, Malakand, died after being trapped beneath the debris.
Four other tourists — Muzammil, son of Daulat; Wisal Hussain, son of Noor Hussain; Luqman, son of Rahmanullah; and Mehdi, son of Fazal Hussain — were injured in the incident and shifted to Kalam Hospital for medical treatment.
Investigation underway
Police said a case has been registered against hotel owner Islam Shah, and further legal proceedings have been initiated.
Authorities have launched investigations into both incidents to determine the circumstances that led to the roof collapses.
