THATTA: At least three students fainted at an examination centre in Var town of district Thatta after prolonged power outages during exam hours, raising concerns over the impact of loadshedding on students’ performance.

The incident occurred despite prior directives from the Deputy Commissioner, who had instructed authorities to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply at all examination centres during annual board exams.

According to the centre in-charge, two female students and one male student lost consciousness due to extreme heat and humidity caused by the suspension of power. They were provided first aid on-site. Officials said the area has been facing unscheduled loadshedding for the past week.

Students at the centre reported difficulty attempting their papers in the intense heat, citing suffocation and discomfort as major challenges. They said frequent outages were affecting their ability to concentrate and complete exams effectively.

Authorities had earlier directed Water and Power Development Authority to maintain consistent electricity supply during exam hours, but the instructions have yet to be fully implemented.

Similar complaints have also emerged from other examination centres in Thatta and Sujawal, where students and parents have raised concerns over repeated outages.

In Sujawal, members of the legal community have indicated plans to pursue legal action against power authorities over continued loadshedding during exams.
