ISLAMABAD, October 29, 2026: Tetra Pak Pakistan and WWF-Pakistan have recognised Crescent Model Girls High School, Lahore, for its outstanding performance in a school recycling initiative, awarding the institution furniture manufactured from recycled beverage cartons.

The school emerged as the Central Region winner of the Recycling Awareness Project after collecting 173 kilograms of used beverage cartons, equivalent to approximately 12,110 cartons.

The achievement was celebrated at a ceremony held on Thursday, where the recycled furniture was formally inaugurated through a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

The event featured a presentation highlighting the school’s recycling efforts, an interactive quiz with Tetra Pak’s mascot Captain Dubloo and an educational mime performance on water conservation by senior students.

Speaking at the ceremony, Tetra Pak Pakistan Sustainability Manager Muhammad Bin Shahzad said students could play an important role in promoting environmental responsibility through everyday choices.

He said the partnership with WWF-Pakistan reflected the company’s commitment to strengthening recycling initiatives while encouraging young people to contribute to a more sustainable future.

WWF-Pakistan Director General Hammad Naqi Khan praised the students for translating environmental awareness into practical action.

He said the school’s achievement demonstrated how meaningful environmental initiatives could begin in classrooms and encourage wider community participation.

Crescent Education Trust Managing Trustee Mian Altaf Saleem thanked both organisations for supporting the initiative and appreciated the efforts of students and teachers.

Recycling initiative reaches schools across Pakistan

The Recycling Awareness Project, supported by Tetra Pak Pakistan since 2017, aims to promote sustainable waste management practices among students.

Under the initiative, 79 environmental awareness sessions were conducted in Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Wah Cantt and Khanpur in Rahim Yar Khan.

A total of 47 schools participated in a used beverage carton collection competition, encouraging students to apply their environmental knowledge through practical recycling activities.

The project is implemented by WWF-Pakistan’s Environmental Education Department as part of its efforts to integrate environmental awareness and responsible waste management into Pakistan’s education system.

Organisers said the initiative demonstrated how discarded packaging materials could be recycled into useful products, promoting a circular economy and reducing waste.

The programme also seeks to encourage students to adopt sustainable practices within their schools, homes and communities.
