ISLAMABAD, October 29, 2026: Pakistan’s average daily petrol sales reached 21,583 metric tonnes during July–September 2026, more than three times the country’s daily refinery production of 7,035 metric tonnes, according to figures submitted by the Ministry of Petroleum to the Senate.

The ministry presented the production and sales data for petrol and high-speed diesel (HSD) in a written response to questions concerning petroleum products and their prices.

The figures showed a daily gap of 14,548 metric tonnes between petrol sales and domestic refinery output during the three-month period.

For high-speed diesel, average daily production stood at 14,065 metric tonnes against sales of 16,866 metric tonnes, reflecting a difference of 2,801 metric tonnes.

Punjab records highest petrol sales

According to the ministry’s province-wise figures, Punjab accounted for the largest share of petrol consumption, with average daily sales of 14,827 metric tonnes against production of 4,670 metric tonnes.

The province also recorded daily high-speed diesel production of 7,608 metric tonnes and sales of 10,779 metric tonnes.

In Sindh, average daily petrol production stood at 1,592 metric tonnes, while sales reached 4,567 metric tonnes.

Sindh’s high-speed diesel production was recorded at 4,419 metric tonnes per day, compared with daily sales of 3,662 metric tonnes.

KP and Balochistan figures

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa recorded average daily petrol sales of 2,127 metric tonnes and high-speed diesel sales of 2,355 metric tonnes during the July–September period.

The ministry’s figures did not specify separate petroleum production volumes for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

In Balochistan, average daily petrol production reached 773 metric tonnes, while sales stood at 62 metric tonnes.

The province’s high-speed diesel production was recorded at 2,038 metric tonnes per day against sales of 70 metric tonnes.

The Ministry of Petroleum informed the Senate that refineries in Pakistan produce petrol and high-speed diesel using both locally extracted and imported crude oil.

The figures highlight the difference between domestic refinery output and petroleum product sales, particularly in the petrol segment.

However, the data does not separately identify the volume of finished petroleum products imported to meet domestic requirements.
