MARDAN: Police have made a major breakthrough in the double murder case at a gurdwara in Mardan, arresting the prime suspect through what officials described as modern scientific methods, technical evidence, and professional investigative techniques, District Police Officer (DPO) Masood Ahmed said during a press conference.
The case was registered on the complaint of Amarjeet Lal, son of Jeevan Lal, a resident of Gaju Khan Shaheen Colony No. 2. The victims were identified as Jagnath, son of Hari Ram, and his wife Asawanti, residents of Babu Mohallah, Mardan.
Arrest and investigation details
DPO Masood Ahmed said the arrested suspect has been identified as Sher Shah, son of Nadir Shah, a resident of Amazogarhi who was currently living in Iran Abad. He said the arrest was made following coordinated efforts using technical evidence and field investigation.
A joint investigation team comprising the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) and senior police officials has so far found no evidence linking the suspect to any banned organisation, terrorist group, or organised network, according to preliminary findings.
Suspect’s statement under review
Police said the suspect has presented his version of events during initial interrogation. Officials confirmed that his statement has been included in the investigation and is being examined from all possible angles to determine the motive behind the killings.

The press briefing was also attended by SP Investigation Maria Mustafa, SP City Hukam Khan, ASP City, and SHO Hothi Police Station alongside the DPO.
Authorities said the investigation is ongoing and further details will be shared as the case progresses.
