ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Law and Justice Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar has directed authorities to establish a coordinated and expedited system to facilitate the verification of travel documents and other necessary papers for overseas Pakistanis.

The minister said overseas Pakistanis were a valuable national asset and that the government was committed to providing them with maximum possible facilities.

According to the Ministry of Law and Justice spokesperson, Tarar issued the directions while chairing a meeting of the Passport Rules Committee attended by officials from the Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the passport authorities and other relevant institutions.

The minister called for a coordinated mechanism to verify required documents and directed authorities to make the verification of records faster and easier.

He instructed officials to establish clear timelines for the verification process so that overseas Pakistanis would not face unnecessary delays.

Tarar also directed the Ministry of Interior to develop an electronic mechanism through which the required procedures could be completed online.

He proposed introducing a one-window portal for document verification and instructed relevant authorities to submit proposals for improving the existing rules and procedures.

The minister directed the concerned institutions to present a clear action plan at the next committee meeting, with the aim of making the verification system more efficient, transparent and citizen-friendly.
