South Waziristan, April 29, 2026: Five members of a family, including three children, were injured after a mortar shell fired from across the Afghanistan border landed in a residential area near Angoor Adda in South Waziristan, officials and medical staff said.
The incident occurred on April 28, when shelling struck civilian areas along the border. The injured were shifted to a nearby hospital, where doctors confirmed blast-related injuries. The incident underscores ongoing risks for civilians living along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, where similar episodes have been reported in the past.
Injuries and medical response
Medical Officer Dr. Ashfaq said five injured patients, including three children, were brought to the hospital with blast injuries. One patient sustained a fracture and was treated with elbow joint stabilization using a back slab.
“The injured children are under observation and are being provided full medical care,” he said.
Eyewitness accounts
A local resident, Noor Ali, said the mortar shell struck suddenly, triggering a loud explosion and panic in the area. Another affected individual said the blast was so intense that it shook the entire house, leaving residents disoriented.
Local concerns over recurring incidents
Residents expressed concern over repeated cross-border shelling, saying civilians—especially children—continue to face risks. They said such incidents have created fear and uncertainty in the area.
Similar incidents of cross-border firing and shelling have previously been reported in the same region, with civilians among the casualties.
