AHMEDABAD: South Africa beat West Indies by nine wickets with 23 balls remaining to seal a place in the T20 World Cup semi-finals, delivering one of the most commanding performances of the Super Eight stage.

Chasing 177 at the Narendra Modi Stadium, South Africa overhauled the target in just 16.1 overs, finishing on 177-1. The result confirmed their progression to the last four and ended West Indies’ hopes of advancing in the tournament.

West Indies had earlier posted 176-8 in their 20 overs. Despite a fighting half-century from Romario Shepherd, the Caribbean side struggled to build sustained partnerships against disciplined South African bowling. Lungi Ngidi led the attack with three wickets, while Kagiso Rabada provided control through the middle overs.

In response, South Africa’s top order delivered a clinical chase. Aiden Markram anchored the innings with an unbeaten 82 off 46 balls, combining calculated stroke play with aggressive acceleration in the latter half. The early breakthrough for West Indies did little to slow the scoring rate, as South Africa maintained momentum throughout the innings.

The victory significantly boosted South Africa’s net run rate and ensured qualification for the semi-finals without reliance on other results. For West Indies, the defeat marked the end of their campaign despite earlier competitive performances in the tournament.

With this result, South Africa join the final four as momentum builds heading into the knockout stage of the T20 World Cup.
