BEIJING: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday endorsed Chinese President Xi Jinping’s four-point peace agenda, saying Pakistan supports China’s efforts for regional peace, dialogue and de-escalation.
Speaking at a reception at the Great Hall of the People, Shehbaz said Pakistan remained grateful for China’s support for ceasefire efforts and regional stability. He said recent tensions had affected global economies as well as Pakistan, making collective international efforts for lasting peace essential.
Referring to regional diplomacy, the prime minister said Pakistan had played a sincere role in facilitating contacts between the United States and Iran. He said Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir had recently returned from Tehran after diplomatic engagement, while Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar had remained in contact with counterparts in Iran and Gulf countries.

Earlier, Chinese Premier Li Qiang received Prime Minister Shehbaz and his delegation at the Great Hall of the People, where a guard of honour was presented after the national anthems of both countries were played.
During delegation-level talks, Shehbaz thanked the Chinese leadership and expressed condolences over the recent coal mine explosion in Shanxi province.
Chinese Premier Li Qiang said Pakistan had maintained close coordination with China, safeguarded shared interests and played a positive role in regional stability.
Li said President Xi would meet Prime Minister Shehbaz later in the day, adding that the meeting would provide strategic guidance for further strengthening bilateral relations.
