SYLHET: Pakistan Test captain Shan Masood said the team made several mistakes during both Tests against Bangladesh and needed to address them after suffering a series defeat.
Speaking at a post-match press conference in Sylhet, Shan said Pakistan had opportunities in both matches but failed to convert key moments into match-winning positions.
He said batters must score centuries when a team is in a position to win a Test match. According to Shan, three Pakistan players were in positions to reach hundreds but could not convert their starts into big innings.
The Pakistan captain said the partnerships between Mohammad Rizwan and Salman Ali Agha, and later between Rizwan and Sajid Khan, were important and could have helped Pakistan get closer to victory.
Shan said Pakistan needed to play more Test cricket to improve, adding that series against every country should include at least three to four Tests.
He said the Sylhet pitch remained suitable for batting even on the final day and praised the quality of pitches and contests at both venues in Bangladesh.
Asked about incidents between players during the series, Shan said it was the responsibility of the relevant authorities to review such matters.
The captain said Pakistan must focus on improving its Test cricket, regardless of whether players are young or experienced.
Shan said he accepted the captaincy with a clear intention to help improve Pakistan’s Test side. He added that discussions with the board continue on different matters, but decisions about captaincy are made by the board.
He said challenges should be accepted and that he has always worn the Pakistan jersey with pride. Shan added that he tries to perform his best in every responsibility, whether as captain or player.
