Pakistan Test team head coach Sarfaraz Ahmed has expressed confidence that former captain Shan Masood will remain an important part of the squad despite no longer leading the side. Speaking before the team’s departure for the West Indies, Sarfaraz said Masood’s experience and professionalism will continue to benefit Pakistan during the upcoming Test series.
The Pakistan Test team is set to begin its tour of the West Indies after completing a month-long training camp. Sarfaraz said the preparations were designed to help players adapt to the conditions they are expected to face in the Caribbean, with a four-day warm-up match in Trinidad providing further match practice.
Shan Masood Remains an Important Player
Addressing the media before the team’s departure, Sarfaraz said he had spoken in detail with Shan Masood and was encouraged by the former captain’s positive attitude.
He acknowledged that Masood had been managing a minor hamstring issue but said the left-handed batter remained confident and fully committed to contributing as a senior member of the squad.
Pakistan Focuses on Caribbean Conditions
Sarfaraz said the team held intensive training camps in Lahore and Rawalpindi over the past month, with practice sessions tailored to the warm and humid conditions expected in the West Indies.
According to the head coach, players trained on both green pitches and spin-friendly surfaces to prepare for different match scenarios. He added that the scheduled four-day warm-up match in Trinidad would help the squad adjust to local conditions before the Test series begins.
Team Targets Strong Series Against West Indies
Sarfaraz acknowledged Pakistan’s recent disappointing performances and said he had met players individually to clarify expectations ahead of the tour.
He also congratulated Babar Azam on returning as Pakistan’s Test captain, describing him as an experienced and capable leader. Sarfaraz said the team’s primary objective is to deliver improved performances and win the Test series against the West Indies.
