RAWALPINDI, September 14: Federal Minister for Railways Muhammad Hanif Abbasi has announced plans to establish an international-standard sports complex at Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi (PMAS-AAUR), while pledging further improvements to sports facilities on the campus.
Abbasi made the announcement while inaugurating the university’s newly renovated and upgraded auditorium, which has been equipped with modern facilities, advanced technology and an improved interior for academic, cultural and official activities.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Qamar-uz-Zaman, Registrar, deans, directors, faculty members, administrative officers and students received the federal minister upon his arrival at the university.
Abbasi also joined a procession on campus and visited stalls showcasing students’ technological innovations, academic projects and creative work before formally inaugurating the renovated auditorium.
Addressing the ceremony, the railways minister congratulated the vice chancellor, university administration, faculty, staff and students on the completion of the auditorium upgrade.
He praised the facility’s modern infrastructure, technological features and interior design, saying public representatives had a responsibility to contribute to the development of educational institutions and create better opportunities for young people.
Abbasi said an international-standard sports complex would soon be established at PMAS-AAUR.
He added that efforts were also under way to improve existing sports infrastructure, particularly the university ground, which is used for academic, sporting and community activities.
Speaking on the occasion, Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Qamar-uz-Zaman thanked Abbasi for supporting the auditorium renovation and the development of sports facilities at the university.
He said the university administration remained committed to improving infrastructure and providing students with modern facilities and a supportive educational environment.
The vice chancellor said modern universities required more than classrooms and laboratories, stressing the importance of properly equipped spaces for conferences, seminars, academic interaction, cultural programmes and intellectual engagement.
He said the renovated auditorium would serve as an important venue for academic and professional activities at PMAS-AAUR.
