Former Pakistan hockey captain and Olympian Salman Akbar has joined the Japan national hockey team on a short-term assignment to train its goalkeepers ahead of the FIH Hockey World Cup.
Japan has brought in Salman Akbar’s expertise as part of its preparations for the World Cup, with the former Pakistani goalkeeper scheduled to work with the team’s goalkeepers for one week.
The Japanese team is currently in the Netherlands for the tournament and is continuing its preparations ahead of its World Cup campaign.
Akbar, who previously captained Pakistan at the international level, is regarded as one of the country’s prominent goalkeepers and has extensive experience in international hockey. He has also worked with Japanese goalkeepers in the past, including a coaching stint in Japan.
His latest assignment highlights the international demand for Pakistani hockey expertise and gives Akbar another opportunity to share his goalkeeping knowledge at the highest level.
Japan will hope that his short-term involvement can help strengthen its goalkeeping unit and improve the team’s readiness for the World Cup
