ASTANA, May 28: Russian President Vladimir Putin and Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev have issued a joint statement outlining seven key pillars aimed at strengthening friendship, good-neighbourliness and strategic cooperation between Russia and Kazakhstan amid what they described as a period of growing global uncertainty.
The statement, released following talks in Astana, said the international system is undergoing significant change, with increasing instability, declining trust and evolving approaches to security and sustainable development. Both leaders stressed the need for a more balanced and equitable world order that supports long-term stability and economic growth.
According to the joint statement, relations between Russia and Kazakhstan are built on mutual respect, equal partnership, consideration of national interests and longstanding historical ties.
Seven pillars of cooperation
The two leaders identified seven core areas that will guide future cooperation between the neighbouring countries.
The first pillar focuses on preserving a shared historical legacy and promoting its objective interpretation in a spirit of friendship and mutual respect.
The second pillar highlights cooperation on Eurasian integration and efforts to strengthen regional dialogue, security and economic cooperation.
The third pillar views the long Russia-Kazakhstan border as a space for collaboration, connectivity and good-neighbourly relations.
Economic partnership was identified as the fourth pillar, reflecting the importance of trade, investment and broader economic ties between the two countries.
The fifth pillar emphasizes linguistic and cultural diversity, traditional values and shared civilizational links as part of a common heritage.
The sixth pillar focuses on youth engagement, educational exchanges and sports cooperation to strengthen people-to-people connections.
The seventh pillar outlines a shared vision for the future based on sustainable development, strategic partnership and long-term cooperation.
Commitment to long-term stability
Putin and Tokayev said they envision Russia-Kazakhstan relations as a framework for sustainable and mutually beneficial development in which both countries act as equal partners, strategic allies and good neighbours.
The statement added that strengthening the seven pillars would help deepen trust, enhance regional stability and create new opportunities for future generations.
The two leaders reaffirmed their belief that the friendship between Russia and Kazakhstan, rooted in shared history and common interests, will remain a strong foundation for bilateral relations in the years ahead.
