The Karachi Traffic Police has warned the public about fake e-challan SMS messages circulating in recent weeks, urging motorists to verify any traffic fine notifications before making payments or sharing personal information.
According to the police, fraudsters are sending deceptive text messages that falsely claim a vehicle has an unpaid traffic challan and include suspicious payment links. Authorities have advised citizens not to trust such messages without verification.
Police Warn of Fraudulent SMS Campaign
Karachi Traffic Police said scammers are misusing the 1915 number to send misleading e-challan notifications designed to trick recipients into revealing personal or financial information.
Officials stressed that people should avoid clicking on unknown links or following instructions contained in suspicious messages.
Verify E-Challan Before Making Any Payment
The traffic police said official e-challan notifications are issued only through authorized channels.
Citizens have been advised not to share their CNIC details, banking information, passwords, or other sensitive data with unknown individuals or websites claiming to process traffic fines.
Contact Helpline if in Doubt
Police said anyone who receives a suspicious e-challan SMS should verify its authenticity by contacting the Karachi Traffic Police Helpline (1915) before taking any action.
Authorities said verifying messages through official channels can help protect citizens from financial fraud and identity theft.
